The Gift of Peace

Continue reading The Gift of Peace

Peace from God allows us to trust in God’s promises rather than in our understanding. We can enjoy peace during this Christmas season (and every day) because the same God that sent His Son as a baby offers His Spirit to live in us now.

On the first Christmas, God sent His Son, also called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of PEACE. The angels appeared to the shepherds and said, “Glory to God in the highest & on earth PEACE among people with whom He is pleased.” (Luke 2:14)

Jesus Christ was born on earth to bring peace to all humankind, offering to those who believe in Him His indwelling Spirit. This offer includes the opportunity to receive inner peace. Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. ” (John 14)

Countless things are fighting for our attention, and we can choose to be anxious about these things that are out of our control by focusing on them, OR we can choose to trust the One who holds it all and receive the peace He offers.

God desires that we come to believe in Him and know His peace. He wants to equip us to be peacemakers in the world. Romans 14, Hebrews 12 and Matthew 5 encourage us to pursue peace with all men and build each other up.

During this Christmas season, my prayer is that each one of us would choose to know the Prince of Peace, that we would share the gift of His Life with others and that the PEACE of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
