Consider Your Ways

“Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, “Consider your ways! You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.””

Haggai 1:5-6

Israel had been in exile for 70 years. The reason for their exile was because of their neglect of the things of God and their blatant disobedience to His commands.
Would you not expect the people to be eager to rebuild the House of God? But they were more concerned with their own houses.

Today we can remind ourselves that our own bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?”
God’s house should take priority and be maintained. If we are believers then our bodies belong to God. He is the One calling the shots.

As Haggai the prophet spoke, if we are not putting God first then we will never be satisfied. 1 John 2:15-16 says, “Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.”

It really is time to consider our ways. See if we are living in such a way that God is pre-eminent and not merely prominent.
