Foggy Days

Continue reading Foggy Days

Here on the West Coast of Canada, we can experience foggy, dull days. They can happen during the fall, winter or when certain weather patterns line up just right. One thing I have observed about fog or when it’s grey outside, is that certain colours seem to be highlighted more against the ashen hue than others.

Yellows, reds or greens that were part of the overall landscape are now isolated and the eye’s focus is drawn toward that one thing or colour instead of taking in the scenery as a whole. I have related this to our spiritual lives.

When we are hemmed in by trials or circumstances, when we don’t know what to do and are burdened by it, when cares are multiplied and sorrows grow, these types of ‘fog’ can drive us to focus on Jesus and Him alone.

This is where our focus is to have been all along and so the ‘fog’ becomes a teacher, a tool, an instrument pointing us towards the Son, Jesus, the goal and object of our faith. He is the One Who can see above the fog, can comfort in the midst of it, and safely guide us through it if He so desires.

When next you find yourself in fog or in ‘a’ fog, give thanks for what or better yet Who the fog is pointing you towards … Jesus Himself.

“O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.” Psalm 139:1 – 6
